«Hornets»
The 2007 season stands apart from everything else the Hornets have done: an 8–0 run through the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference under coach Al Lavan, the program's first year with ten wins, and its first trip to the NCAA FCS playoffs.
The program dates to 1924, when Delaware State was still known as the State College for Colored Students, and its earliest silverware came in the Middle Atlantic Athletic Association in 1934 and 1935, followed by a CIAA title in 1956. Not every Saturday has gone that way: in 1980 the Hornets lost 105–0 to Portland State.
Home games are played at Alumni Stadium in Dover, built in 1957 to replace the old Soldier's Field, in Columbia blue and cherry red. DeSean Jackson now holds the coaching post.
The fixture that matters most is against the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens, the Route 1 Rivalry, revived as an annual meeting in 2011.
