Saints

The Caesars Superdome sits at 1500 Sugar Bowl Drive, a fixed dome that seats 76,468 and keeps New Orleans football indoors regardless of what the Gulf does outside. The Saints have played there since the building opened, and the arrangement outlasted three renamings of the stadium itself, from Louisiana Superdome through Mercedes-Benz Superdome to its current sponsor.

The franchise joined the NFL in 1966, and for most of its history the record read as a long wait. That wait ended with the 2009 season, when the Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings in overtime for the NFC Championship and went on to defeat the Indianapolis Colts 31–17 in Super Bowl XLIV. It remains the club's only Super Bowl appearance and its only win. Division titles came earlier and later: two in the NFC West, in 1991 and 2000, and seven since the realignment into the NFC South, most recently in 2020.

The defense of the 1980s earned its own name, the Dome Patrol, and Rickey Jackson anchored it as one of its linebackers before his enshrinement in the Hall of Fame. The rivalry with the Atlanta Falcons, known locally as the Southern Showdown, has produced enough overtime finishes that neither side treats it as a routine divisional game.

No player carries more weight in New Orleans than Drew Brees. He arrived to rebuild a team still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, threw the Saints to their only championship, and finished his career as the franchise's defining quarterback; the club inducted him into its Hall of Fame in 2024. Archie Manning came before him, the first quarterback the city built its hopes around, and his name stayed in the Ring of Honor long after he stopped playing.
