Salzburg Women

Five titles in the ÖFB 2. Liga Ost came in two bursts. Back-to-back wins in 2007 and 2008 were followed by a gap, then three in a row — 2014, 2015, 2016 — the run that began the season the women's side passed into the hands of FC Bergheim.

The players had started out somewhere else entirely. The women's team was set up in 1999 under USK Hof, a village arrangement rather than a club project, and it has changed hands twice since — to Bergheim, and then, in 2025, to FC Red Bull Salzburg. The name on the shirt now is the same one the men wear, down to the badge; the red and white are unchanged from before.

Home is the Red Bull Football Academy in Liefering, on the edge of Salzburg. It holds 500. That is a training-ground figure, not a stadium one, and it shapes the matchday: no stands to speak of, the touchline close enough that instructions carry, an away side that has to play its football in front of a few hundred people standing at the rail. Whether the team stays there is a question the new ownership has yet to answer in public.

What the 2025 handover changes is the scale of what sits behind the team — an academy, a men's operation, a budget line that was not there under Bergheim. What it has not yet changed is the record: the last of those league titles is now a decade old, and the side is still working out what it looks like under the new name.
