Frauenliga (Austria) 2026/27

The ÖFB-Frauen-Bundesliga stands as the premier women's football competition in Austria. It operates at Level 1 of the national pyramid, sitting alongside the men's top flight but distinguished by its own structural evolution and history. The tournament traces its lineage to the 1936 ÖDFU-Liga, though the modern professional era began with the 1972/1973 'Damenliga Ost'. The Austrian Football Association assumed full control in 1982, standardising the title as the Frauen-Bundesliga.

The current season features 10 clubs, including Austria Wien Women, First Vienna Women, and LASK. The format underwent significant revision for the 2024/25 campaign. Following a standard double round-robin regular season, the table splits. The top four sides enter a Championship Group, playing a double round-robin to decide the title. The remaining six teams form a Qualification Group, contesting a single round-robin to avoid relegation. This structure mirrors the men's split system but adapts the group sizes and match counts specifically for the women's game.

Skilled play defines the league's character. SKN St. Pölten dominated the period between 2015 and 2025, securing 10 consecutive titles. That streak ended when FK Austria Wien Women claimed the 2025/26 championship. USC Landhaus Wien and USV Neulengbach remain the most decorated sides in the competition's history, each holding 12 titles. The league maintains a direct pathway to the second tier: one club is relegated to the 2. Liga, while one side earns promotion through a playoff between the winners of the two regional divisions.

Sponsorship has shifted over time, with Admiral taking over from Planet Pure in 2023. The competition remains distinct from its male counterpart not just in scale, but in the rhythm of the season and the intensity of the qualification battle at the lower end of the table.
