Standard Liège Women

Standard Fémina de Liège grew out of the men's club's basketball section, where a group of players decided in 1971 to set up a team of their own under the name Saint-Nicolas FC Liège. Three years later the side won the first Belgian Women's First Division title and took the name Standard Liège along with it. The nickname "Les Rouches" follows local dialect for "rouge."

What followed was two decades in which the league title rarely left Liège: 20 championships in all, the first double arriving in 1976 and the first treble a decade later. Ten Belgian Cups and seven Belgian Super Cups sit alongside those league titles, making Standard the most decorated women's club in the country.

Eight appearances in the UEFA Women's Champions League have not yet taken the club past the round of 32, and ahead of the 2023–24 season the players were moved onto professional contracts.

None of that history carries the same weight as the meetings with RSC Anderlecht Women. Liège against Anderlecht is called Le Classique in the women's game just as it is in the men's.
