SV Lafnitz

The village of Lafnitz sits in eastern Styria, and for most of its life the football club that carries its name belonged entirely to that scale. What changed the trajectory was a change in the boardroom. Bernhard Loidl took over as president in 2009, the lighting firm Licht Loidl went onto the club's legal name.

The club reached the professional 2. Liga for the first time in 2018, having won the Regionalliga Mitte. The best of them was 2021/22, when fourth place put Lafnitz into the play-off for a place in the Bundesliga. The last of them was 2024/25, sixteenth and relegation straight back to the Regionalliga.

The ground was rebuilt for the ascent rather than after it. The old Sportplatz Lafnitz was reconstructed across 2011 and 2012 and reopened as the Fußballarena Lafnitz, holding 3,000.
