The FIBA U18 AmeriCup is the premier under-18 basketball championship for the Americas. Organized by the FIBA Americas Zone, the tournament serves as the continental championship and the primary qualifying event for the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. The men's competition began in 1990, followed by the women's tournament in 1988. Originally held every four years until 2006, the schedule shifted to a biennial format starting in 2008.
Eight national teams participate in the current edition, including sides from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Mexico. Teams advance through regional qualifiers, specifically the FIBA U17 Centrobasket Championship and the FIBA U17 South American Championship. The United States and Canada frequently receive automatic berths, while remaining spots are determined by performance in these regional contests.
The competition structure involves eight teams divided into two groups of four. After a round-robin group stage, the top teams progress to a single-elimination knockout phase featuring quarterfinals, semifinals, and medal games. The top four finishers secure qualification for the subsequent FIBA U19 World Cup.
Historically, the United States has dominated the men's tournament, winning ten gold medals as of 2024. This record included a streak of seven consecutive titles between 2010 and 2024. However, the landscape shifted in 2026 when Canada defeated the United States 67–65 in the final to claim its first-ever gold medal. The tournament is distinct from the senior FIBA AmeriCup, which operates as a standalone continental championship without direct World Cup implications.
