The FIBA U16 AmeriCup serves as the premier continental basketball tournament for men's under-16 national teams in the Americas. Organized by FIBA Américas, it operates as the top-tier event for this age group, sitting above regional qualifiers such as the South American U15 Championship and the FIBA U15 Centrobasket. The competition functions as the primary qualification pathway for the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup, with the top four teams earning a spot in the global championship.
The tournament features eight national teams, typically including automatic qualifiers from North America, the host nation, and top finishers from regional qualifiers. The format consists of a group stage where the eight teams are divided into two groups of four, playing a round-robin schedule. The top four teams from each group advance to a knockout phase comprising quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals, along with classification games for places 5–8.
The United States holds a dominant position in the competition's history, having won every edition from its inception in 2009 through 2025. Canada is the most frequent runner-up, having lost in the finals in 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2023. Argentina has also been a consistent finalist but has yet to win the title. The tournament was previously known as the FIBA Americas U16 Championship before being rebranded to the FIBA U16 AmeriCup to align with other continental youth tournaments. Participation is determined by performance in regional qualifiers or invitation status for top-tier nations.
