About

The FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup is the premier continental tournament for women's under-18 national teams in the Americas. It serves as the primary qualifier for the FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup, with the top four finishers earning a spot in the global event. Founded in 1988, the competition operates on a biennial schedule within the FIBA Americas hierarchy. Unlike the U16 and senior versions of the AmeriCup, this specific age category provides a distinct pathway for young players seeking international exposure.

The field comprises eight teams, reflecting a blend of continental strength and regional representation. United States and Canada participate automatically due to their status as regional powerhouses. The host nation also secures an automatic berth, which can alter the allocation of spots from regional qualifiers. The remaining six places are determined through separate continental pathways: the top three teams from the FIBA U17 Women's Centrobasket and the top three from the FIBA U17 Women's South American Championship join the draw. This structure ensures that Central American and Caribbean teams have a route to the main event alongside their South American counterparts.

Competition format begins with a group stage featuring two groups of four teams playing round-robin matches. Knockout quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals follow to determine the champion. The United States stands as the most successful nation in the tournament's history, claiming 13 titles. Their dominance includes victory in the most recent edition held in Irapuato, Mexico, where they defeated Canada 90–72. The event underwent significant changes in 2004, shifting from an Under-19 to an Under-18 age category and later rebranding to the AmeriCup name. These reforms align the tournament with broader FIBA Americas youth structures, which have since discontinued the U20 event in favour of the U18 and U19 pathways.
