About

The T1 League operated as a top-tier professional basketball competition in Taiwan. It ran as a closed, franchise-based system, meaning there was no promotion or relegation to other tiers. This structure distinguished it from pyramid-based models common in Europe. The league competed directly with the P. League+, creating a unique dual-league landscape in the region.

A significant difference between the two local competitions involved roster regulations. The T1 League allowed teams to register up to four import players for a season, though only two could play simultaneously. This offered greater flexibility compared to the rival league's stricter two-import limit. The T1 League also marketed itself heavily on entertainment value. It signed high-profile international stars such as Dwight Howard and DeMarcus Cousins to boost visibility. This star-driven approach contrasted with the more community-focused strategy of its rival.

Competitors included the Kaohsiung Aquas, New Taipei CTBC DEA, Tainan TSG GhostHawks, and Taipei Taishin Mars. In the 2023–24 season, the regular season consisted of 28 games per team, with each squad playing every opponent seven times. Playoff decisions were determined by a best-of-five semifinal and a best-of-seven final series. The Kaohsiung Aquas won the inaugural championship, followed by the New Taipei CTBC DEA in the second year. The Taoyuan Taiwan Beer Leopards secured the final title before the league ended.

The competition ceased operations in July 2024 after a merger attempt failed. While some teams joined the existing P. League+, others formed a new entity called the Taiwan Professional Basketball League. The T1 League’s primary legacy remains its franchise model and aggressive marketing tactics during its brief existence.
