About

Prva Liga za ženi is the premier women’s basketball competition in North Macedonia, governed by the Basketball Federation of North Macedonia (KFM). Established in 1992 alongside the independent national federation, it represents the highest level of the sport for female athletes in the country, sitting above the Vtora Liga. The league structure has evolved significantly since its inception, transitioning from the former Yugoslav system to a domestic model that varies annually. In recent seasons, the competition has utilised a split format with teams divided into groups, followed by playoff stages to determine the national champion.

The 2024–25 campaign featured six clubs competing for the title: Badel 1862 Skopje Women, Basket Kam Women, Kriva Palanka Women, MZT Skopje Women, Patriot Women, and Probasket Women. The season concluded with Basket Kam 2011 securing their fourth championship, defeating Kriva Palanka in the final series. This victory followed the 2023–24 success of Badel 1862 Skopje, marking a shift in the competitive landscape after decades of dominance by another club. ZKK MZT Skopje Aerodrom remains the most successful entity in the league’s history, having claimed the majority of titles since independence, including a three-season winning streak between 2011 and 2014.

While the men’s counterpart, the Super League, operates under similar founding principles, the women’s league maintains a distinct identity with fewer resources and a smaller team count. The competition serves as the primary pathway for women’s basketball development in North Macedonia, though specific details regarding promotion and relegation to the second tier are not consistently publicised. The league continues to be the central stage for women’s basketball in the region, determining the annual national champion through a combination of group stages and knockout playoffs.
