About

FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup is the premier global tournament for men’s national under-19 basketball teams. Organised by FIBA (International Basketball Federation), it sits at the highest tier for this age group, with no higher domestic or international pyramid level for U19 players. The competition was founded in 1979, with the inaugural edition held in Salvador, Brazil. Originally known as the FIBA Under-19 World Championship, it was rebranded to the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup in 2017.

The tournament features 16 national teams, selected via continental championships. It follows a format of four groups of four teams, followed by knockout quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final. There is no promotion or relegation system as it is a standalone global championship. The number of participating teams expanded from 12 in 1979 to 16 in 1991. The United States is the most successful nation with 9 titles (1979, 1983, 1991, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2025). The current holder is the United States, having defeated Germany 109–76 in the 2025 final.

The competition is distinct from the FIBA U17 World Cup (founded 2010) and the senior FIBA World Cup. The official information is hosted on FIBA’s main domain, with no single permanent standalone URL for the event across all years.
