Mineros beat El Calor de Cancún 76 to 69 in the LNBP on August 11th at Cancún. The visitors took control early and held on despite a second-half push from the hosts. It extended their recent momentum after a string of high-scoring affairs.
To be fair, Mineros made their shooting count when it mattered. They hit 27 of 59 field goals and added eight three-pointers, while the hosts managed only 24 of 56 and seven from distance. The difference came in the paint, where Mineros grabbed seven offensive rebounds against three for Cancún.
El Calor de Cancún felt the pressure after falling behind. They committed 19 personal fouls and turned the ball over 11 times, but their defence gave ground at key moments. They had 16 assists to show for their ball movement, yet it was not enough to shift the momentum.
The statistics tell a straightforward story. Mineros out-rebounded their opponents 31 to 27 and posted six steals to five. Both sides converted 14 free throws each, but the visitors shot better from the field and from beyond the arc. Their 12 assists came from less movement, but they were more clinical.
This result leaves Cancún with a run of mixed results after five games. They lost to Santos on August 7th and fell to Abejases on August 1st, but had won against both sides on consecutive days. Mineros, meanwhile, scored 98 and 95 in their last two games against Correccionos, showing they can put up points in bunches.
By then the visitors had already secured their advantage. The final margin of seven points reflected a game where efficiency outweighed volume. Mineros kept knocking on the door in the second half, but Cancún did not have the answers to close the gap.
