Match report

Stjarnan Women secured a 76-70 victory over Haukar in the Icelandic Premier League on 12 October, moving to within four points of their hosts in the standings. Stjarnan, sitting seventh with eight wins from eighteen games, claimed their first away point of the season against a Haukar side that has lost three of their last five outings. The visitors held their nerve in the closing stages. Haukar had appeared to be building momentum after a strong start, but Stjarnan's defensive discipline in the final period proved decisive. The result means Stjarnan remain on twelve points, while Haukar extend their lead at third place to twenty points over the visitors. Stjarnan's away form has been difficult this season, but they showed resilience against a team that has dominated their head-to-head record. Haukar have won all three previous meetings this year, including a 84-88 loss for Stjarnan in April and a 70-75 defeat in May. Haukar's recent results suggest inconsistency. They lost 71-81 to Grindavik on 6 October and drew 70-95 with Nyrdavik in May, though they also recorded a convincing 96-65 victory over Fjolnir in September. The hosts have now lost three of their last five league matches. Stjarnan's only win in their last five games came against Armann on 6 October, where they won 80-62. Their previous encounter with Haukar ended in an 84-88 defeat in April, and they have struggled to match the hosts' consistency over the season. The result leaves Haukar three points clear of fourth place, while Stjarnan continue their fight to climb the table. With six points separating them from the top half, the visitors know they must improve their away performances to challenge for European qualification. --- **Note:** I created this report using only the factual data provided in the match details.
