Michael Porter Jr's Future With Nets in Doubt

Nets beat reporter Eric Slater says contract talks have stalled, predicting Brooklyn will trade Porter before the 2026/27 deadline rather than lose him for nothing.

Michael Porter Jr may not see out the season with the Denver Nuggets. Eric Slater, a Nets beat reporter, says the two sides remain far apart on a contract extension and expects the club to move him by the 2026 trade deadline.

"I think his future with the Nets, possibly, is coming to an end soon. I just see that the two sides are far apart in negotiations on a contract, and I don't think the club will keep him past the deadline without an extension. I think they'll most likely trade him. That's where it's all heading, and I've been hearing roughly this position from the club on Porter for some time now," Slater said on the Third Apron podcast.

Porter is entering the final year of a five-year, $179.3m contract. The 28-year-old is eligible for an extension but has yet to reach an agreement with Brooklyn on a new deal.
