FIBA Bans Rimantas Grigas for Five Years
The disciplinary panel suspended Lithuania coach Rimantas Grigas through October 2030 over harassment complaints from national team and Kibirkstis players.
The International Basketball Federation has banned Rimantas Grigas, head coach of the Lithuania women's national team and club side Kibirkstis, for five years over sexual harassment.
The FIBA disciplinary panel's ruling follows anonymous complaints from players at both the national team and Kibirkstis in the summer of 2025. The Lithuanian Basketball Federation opened an investigation into the allegations in February 2025, working alongside FIBA on the case.
The suspension runs from 27 October 2025, the day Grigas was provisionally barred from all basketball activity, and lasts until 27 October 2030. The 63-year-old has also been fined 12,000 Swiss francs.
FIBA has ordered him to complete an approved safeguarding course before the ban expires. Without finishing it, he will not be permitted to return to coaching in any capacity once the five years are up.
Grigas has previously coached the Belarus women's national team and served on the staff at UMMC Ekaterinburg.
