Denver made Payton Watson one contract offer this off-season and did not come back with a second after he turned it down, according to Bennett Durando of The Denver Post.
At the start of free agency, the Nuggets put forward a four-year deal worth roughly $18m a season, with a team option on the fourth year. Durando reports that Denver had reservations about Watson's "reliability and maturity". Watson's representatives rejected the offer straight away, treating those doubts as a slight.
Watson had gone in looking for at least $25m a year. Denver never improved its offer, though the club remained willing to sign him on the original terms even after the rejection.
He ended up in Cleveland instead, signing a four-year, $88m contract.
