Tony Parker Named Head Coach of Villeurbanne
The NBA legend takes his first professional head coaching job, vowing to stay in coaching for 15-20 years after Villeurbanne's last-place EuroLeague finish.
Tony Parker will take charge of a professional club for the first time this season, moving to the bench at Villeurbanne. He set out his long-term ambitions as a coach at his introductory press conference.
"I really want to do this for the next 15 to 20 years. From now on I will get better every day. I have tried to surround myself with the best people," Parker said.
He singled out the coaching staff, the physical performance department and the front office at Villeurbanne, saying the club employs motivated people with deep knowledge of basketball.
The job facing him is a difficult one. Villeurbanne finished bottom of the EuroLeague table last season with a record of 8-30, winning just two of 19 away games.
