Nikola Jokic: Horses Are Like Coaching Athletes
Denver's three-time NBA MVP said he visited his stable daily this summer, comparing caring for young and injured horses to working with athletes.
Nikola Jokic has revealed how he spent much of his summer: at the stables with his horses.
"This summer, I managed to visit the stable with my horses every day. I went there, spent time with them and rode. That means a lot to me. I have quite a lot of horses now, so you could even say I'm needed there — as someone who can help. I like spending time with them and interacting. With a young horse, you literally see it progress day by day. And when you help an injured horse and see that you've put a lot of effort into it and it's getting better, that also brings satisfaction. In a way, it's similar to working with an athlete — you act as a coach or an assistant. That's probably how I'd describe it. You just love it and enjoy it. I also like it when everything ends and everyone leaves. I come later, there's calm all around, and then someone comes to feed the horses, and all you hear is them eating," said the three-time NBA MVP.
The remarks describe in unusual detail how he now sees the work — closer to coaching than to a hobby, tending to young horses as well as those recovering from injury.
