Patrick Beverley says a friendly jibe about their time as Houston Rockets team-mates turned banter into a shouting match, and left Beverley rattled enough to raise it on his own show days later.
The two former NBA players were guests on the BIG3 podcast "3's and Ones" when Beverley brought up the 2015-16 season in Houston and mentioned that he had outscored Beasley in some of their shared games. Beasley, the second overall pick in the 2008 draft, reacted by shouting and demanding Beverley acknowledge his superiority.
"There's no footage anywhere of Pat playing better than me! There hasn't been a day since 1988 that you could compete with me. Your best day against my worst day, and you still lose. Look me in my damn eyes... look me in the eyes!" Beasley shouted.
"He started screaming, it happened out of nowhere. He just grabbed my microphone and threw it down, for no reason. I'm looking at him thinking, 'he's my guy, right?' And he goes from zero to completely unhinged in 30 seconds. He just lost it. That was pure disrespect," Beverley said, describing the episode on his own show a few days later.
Beverley said he tried to calm the situation and reminded Beasley of their friendship, but that Beasley stayed fixated on the perceived slight and lost control of his emotions.
