Glen Davis: Clippers' Lob City Locker Room Was Toxic

Glen Davis has confirmed the stories about a toxic locker room at the Clippers during the Lob City years, saying the friction between Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan was impossible to miss.

"Is it true? There were always some kind of problems there. It was impossible not to notice. You felt it literally every day. Every damn day, guys. Chris Paul didn't like Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. They just didn't like each other. So how the hell were we supposed to overcome something together if we didn't have the right attitude toward each other? I understand: you have to come to work, and at work you might not like your colleagues. Fine. But when you're trying to do something special, something important and collective, you have to get along with each other. I really wish Chris Paul had handled it better. If he had acted differently, we would definitely have been much more successful. He was the authoritative veteran who should have taken this on himself," Davis said.

The Celtics championship winner has described the split between the Clippers' leaders before, in a separate interview.

"There's no exaggeration here. I was there and saw it all with my own eyes. DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin were like brothers, stepbrothers, whatever you want to call it. But Chris Paul, because of his character and his methods, always remained alone on a desert island. It was a real soap opera... A huge amount of problems on every level," Davis recalled.

The Clippers have been back in the headlines for a different reason this month: the NBA fined the franchise $30m and stripped picks over the circumvention of the salary cap in Kawhi Leonard's 2019 contract, suspending owner Steve Ballmer for a year. Davis's account gives a locker-room postscript to an era of the club now being scrutinised for how it was built off the court as well.
