Winderman: Heat should pursue D'Angelo Russell
Miami insider Ira Winderman says the Heat should take a chance on guard D'Angelo Russell after his release by the Memphis Grizzlies.
Miami Heat are reportedly interested in signing D'Angelo Russell following his release from the Memphis Grizzlies.
"Given the roster and the salary-cap situation, it is hard to find a reason why the Heat shouldn't take the risk and try to land D'Angelo Russell. Looking at the contract status of Nick Richards and Mo Gadree, the club would still retain the ability to sign a veteran further down the line even after he buys out his previous deal," Winderman wrote.
Russell was waived by Memphis after the Grizzlies acquired him in a deal from the Brooklyn Nets. The guard has previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves, among other sides.
Whether Miami acts on Winderman's suggestion remains to be seen. If the Heat do move for Russell, it would add a further ball-handling option to a backcourt that has already been reshaped this off-season.
