LeBron James Says He Considered Joining the Knicks Before Title
The 41-year-old forward told ESPN he imagined finishing his career at Madison Square Garden, but backed off after New York beat San Antonio for the title.
LeBron James says he seriously considered joining the New York Knicks, and that the move was part of his plans until the club won the title in June.
The 41-year-old forward told ESPN: "I imagined playing at Madison Square Garden and finishing my career there. It is one of the best arenas I have ever played in. I think that for a basketball player it is the number one arena in the world. But after they beat San Antonio, I thought: 'No, I can't.' I just couldn't do it."
James said the likely negative reaction to a move to the Knicks straight after they had won the championship made the option unrealistic.
He also spoke about the club he passed over. "But of course, huge respect to the Knicks. I want to single out Jalen Brunson. I love that guy, he is incredible. But yes, I'm happy where I am, and I'm looking forward to the new season," James said.
According to him, the idea is closed for now, and the champions' roster is not affected by it.
