Pelicans to Waive Taj Gibson
New Orleans plans to release 41-year-old forward Taj Gibson following the trade that brought him from Memphis, per The Athletic's Will Guillory.
Gibson had signed with the Grizzlies in February, brought in to lend experience to a young roster. Last season he made 10 appearances, averaging 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9.8 minutes.
He arrived in New Orleans as part of the deal that sent Jordan Hawkins and Peavy to Memphis in exchange for Gibson and A.J. Johnson, a trade that also helped clear the cap room the Pelicans SC used to sign Bennedict Mathurin. Johnson, unlike Gibson, will stick around for now — the club wants to see him in training camp before deciding whether he fits the roster.
