Sean Marks explains why the Nets drafted Michael Brown

Nets GM Sean Marks says Michael Brown's curiosity, character and willingness to learn from veterans shaped the decision to draft him.

People around Brown, the general manager said, describe him as a sponge for information.

"It's very important for us to understand what drives these guys, where they're from and why they've developed the habits they have. We enjoyed getting to know Michael's parents, learning more about his family and seeing how he looks after his brothers and sisters. The same goes for how he treats his teammates. That matters a great deal when we're trying to build a team culture and a tight-knit group," Marks said.

The Nets also pointed to Brown's willingness to learn from more experienced players as a factor in the decision.
