Shumpert Slams McGrady Over MVP-Versus-Title Remark

Iman Shumpert has hit back at Tracy McGrady after the Hall of Famer said winning the regular-season MVP award matters more than winning an NBA title.

, said the comment cut him deeply and clashes with the basic point of the sport.

"What a load of nonsense he's talking! I think highly of Mac, but I cannot agree with this at all... Mac, we've got kids now. You can't tell my kids that winning doesn't matter. Of course it does! You have to play to win. That's the whole point of stepping on the court — to win. I can't look at him the same way anymore. I really loved you, I argued for you, put you up against Kobe, and now you go and do this to me... It stings, because that's exactly the attitude that kept him from getting past the first round," said the former Cavaliers and Knicks guard.

McGrady never advanced past the opening round of the playoffs in his career, Shumpert draws a direct line between that record and the mindset McGrady has now put into words.
