Iman Shumpert Warns 76ers Stars Over LeBron James
The 2016 NBA champion says Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid must adjust their egos now that LeBron James has joined Philadelphia, recalling Kyrie Irving's experience.
Iman Shumpert has a warning for Philadelphia's stars about sharing the floor with LeBron James.
"All the attention is now on Bron, that's normal. It bothered Kyrie. Kyrie had his own expectations, his own legacy, his own issues. Bron comes in, and now everything revolves around him. Tyrese Maxey will have to deal with that. Embiid will have to deal with that. If you win, it means Bron did it. That psychological story is really tough. I think it's the biggest problem a lot of players have to face. When someone comes in, you have to change, change in terms of ego," said Shumpert.
James signed with the 76ers this offseason, joining a roster built around Joel Embiid and Maxey. Shumpert, who won an NBA title with Cleveland in 2016 alongside James, drew on Kyrie Irving's time as James's teammate to make his point: Irving eventually left Cleveland for Boston, in part over questions about whose team it was.
Whether Maxey and Embiid face the same strain may not become clear until Philadelphia is tested in a tight game.
