LaVine Praises Westbrook After Retirement
Kings guard Zach LaVine reflected on Russell Westbrook's 18-season career and his intense playing style following the 2017 MVP's retirement announcement.
Zach LaVine paid tribute to Russell Westbrook after the 2017 MVP announced his retirement following 18 seasons in the league.
"Russ is one of the best people I've ever met, on the floor and off it. That guy has just incredible energy, the kind you've never seen before, and I played against him. I came into the league in 2014, and a couple of years later he won MVP. When I was younger, guarding him was absolute hell, especially at 19 or 20, when he's running straight through you... Hats off to him for a hell of a career. He still had a lot left to give to basketball, he could have kept playing. But I'm glad he went out on his own terms, because not everyone gets to do that," LaVine said.
LaVine, now with Sacramento, played alongside Westbrook for the Kings last season, the pair sharing the floor in 36 games together.
