Dirk Nowitzki backs Masai Ujiri's rebuild of the Dallas Mavericks
Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki says he is on the side of new president Masai Ujiri, who has rebuilt the roster and named Dusty May head coach in five months.
Dirk Nowitzki has backed Masai Ujiri, the new president of the Dallas Mavericks, who began wholesale changes at the club after his appointment five months ago.
"We are on his side. We all want the Mavericks to get back to where they were. Just a few years ago we played in the Finals. There is a lot of work ahead of us. We are encouraged," Nowitzki told The Athletic.
Under Ujiri the roster has been substantially rebuilt, and Dusty May has been named head coach.
If Nowitzki's reference to the Finals is the benchmark, the rebuild will be judged against a run that ended only a few years ago. This may mean the pressure on the new front office arrives sooner than a project of this size would normally allow.
