Kawhi Leonard Told Suitors He'd Extend Only With Raptors or Spurs

Insider Marc Stein reports Leonard warned Miami, Minnesota and Detroit before his Toronto trade; the 35-year-old is eligible for a two-year, $126m extension.

According to insider Marc Stein, Kawhi Leonard informed several interested teams before his trade to Toronto that he would sign an extension only with the Raptors or the Spurs.

Miami, Minnesota and Detroit were among the sides that wanted the forward. "Amid interest from such suitors as Miami, Minnesota and Detroit, Leonard made it clear that he would sign an extension only with the Raptors or the Spurs (who, however, did not try to trade for him)," Stein wrote.

Leonard averaged 27.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season, shooting 50.5% from the field and 38.7% from three. The 35-year-old is now eligible for a two-year extension worth $126m.
