Kyle Lowry has asked the Toronto Raptors to retire DeMar DeRozan's number as well, using the ceremony that marked the end of his own career.
The Raptors unveiled a statue of a dinosaur in Lowry's honour and confirmed that his No. 7 will be retired officially in January.
Lowry used the occasion to speak about his former team-mate. "I hope we do all of this again when the number 10 goes up to the rafters," the guard said, referring to DeRozan.
The two played six seasons together and formed the core of a Raptors side that reached the Eastern Conference finals in 2015/16.
If the club acts on Lowry's words, DeRozan's No. 10 could follow No. 7 into the rafters, though the reports give no sign that the Raptors have made any such decision.
