Trae Young explains why he left Atlanta for Washington

Washington point guard Trae Young says he wanted to leave Atlanta without a scandal, citing how Kevin Durant was treated, and lost comfort after Onsi Saleh arrived.

Trae Young, now a point guard for Washington, explained that he wanted a clean break from Atlanta to avoid the negative treatment he witnessed when Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook departed.

Young said. "I grew up in Oklahoma and saw how Kevin Durant was ruined by the way he left. I didn't want that kind of treatment. I also saw how they treated Russell when he eventually left. You never know how the NBA works. You don't know whether a return there could happen in the future. I respect the ownership, and many people in Atlanta. So I never wanted to leave with a scandal."

His patience ran out after three GMs. Saleh’s arrival sealed it.
