Lonzo Ball hints his playing career may be over at 28
The former No. 2 pick says he gave basketball everything, thanks it for his life, and regrets that knee injuries kept him from reaching his peak in nine NBA years.
Lonzo Ball, 28, has hinted that his playing career may be over. Speaking on the Ball in the Family podcast, he said: "I feel like I gave basketball everything I had, and everything I have in my life I got thanks to basketball. I am grateful just for having made it to the NBA and spent nine years there."
The guard was the second pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He spent nine seasons in the league with the Lakers, New Orleans, Chicago and Cleveland, and knee problems kept returning throughout.
Ball said the injuries stopped him reaching the level he felt he was capable of. "I don't think I ever managed to reach my peak. And, damn, that is really upsetting. But at the same time there are people who have nothing to eat in the evening. That is how I look at the world," he said.
He did not say in the reports that he had formally retired.
