Alperen Sengun on Rockets' loss to Lakers: Experience beat us
Rockets center Alperen Sengun said experience decided the first-round series, lost 2-4 to a Lakers side with LeBron, as Houston's young core learned from defeat.
"We played six games. Unfortunately, Kevin was with us for only one of them. He got injured. But for the young guys on the team it was another chance to grow," Sengun said. "Jabari, me, Amen – we took on the role of leaders, because it was us who had to play and lead the Rockets forward."
He pointed to who was on the other side. "We were up against the Lakers, who have huge experience: LeBron, Marcus, Rui... All of these people have been through this before and understand the situation better. But we made them sweat. We outdid them in all the statistical categories, but, I would say, experience beat us. They knew what to do. They stayed calm in the decisive moments. That is what we learned."
Sengun said he has been with the group for four or five years. "It was great to fight side by side with my brothers. All that time we were trying to get into this situation. We made it, but, unfortunately, we fell short. But it is through defeats that you come to victories."
