Marcus Smart signs two-year, $13m deal with Houston Rockets
Marcus Smart chose the Rockets over a richer Lakers offer, calling the talks disrespectful, and said Los Angeles's proposal did not match how well he played.
Marcus Smart has signed a two-year, $13m contract with Houston that includes a player option, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The guard chose the Rockets over a financially better offer from the Los Angeles Lakers. He said the Lakers' approach was disrespectful and picked a place where his relatives and friends live.
"I played well. Their offer didn't match it. Guys who played worse got more. And in terms of contract details and guarantees, it was not what we wanted. The Lakers gave me a chance to earn a new contract. And I gave everything, I needed a substantial salary for a long term to take care of my family. Or a shorter deal with more money," Smart said.
