Pistons Made Direct Push for Kevin Durant, Rockets Said No

Detroit made a direct approach to Houston this summer over a possible trade for Kevin Durant, according to ClutchPoints insider Brett Siegel, only for the Rockets to show no interest in doing business.

Siegel reported that the Pistons were prepared to go all-in to land Durant as they looked to build another scoring threat alongside Cade Cunningham. Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard were the other names on Detroit's list of potential targets, by all accounts, though neither move progressed beyond the exploratory stage.

Houston's refusal to engage ended the matter for now.

For Detroit, the pursuit fits a pattern of a side trying to add proven scoring around Cunningham rather than rely solely on internal development. Nothing came of it this time, but if Durant's position in Houston becomes unsettled, Siegel's reporting suggests the Pistons will not be the only club making calls.
