Onsi Saleh Jokes About Signing ESPN's Tim Bontemps
Hawks president Onsi Saleh joked that hiring ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps as a strategic adviser was the NBA's worst contract, but praised his work so far.
Onsi Saleh, president of the Atlanta Hawks, used his press conference to poke fun at one of the club's summer hires: ESPN reporter Tim Bontemps, who joined the front office as a strategic adviser.
Bontemps is a familiar name to NBA followers as a co-host of the Hoop Collective podcast. Saleh said the move had not gone down well with his former colleagues.
"The only regret of this summer is signing Tim Bontemps. The worst contract in the NBA right now. The guys from Hoop Collective tore me apart for stealing an employee from them. You can take him back. No, actually — Tim has fitted in perfectly. He's doing a great job. We all like him a lot, and we're very excited about working with him," said Saleh.
Bontemps made the switch from journalism to the Hawks' front office this summer, taking on an advisory role rather than a playing or coaching post.
