Alex Rangel

Álex Rangel spent his early professional years at Técnico Universitario in Ambato, making his debut there in 2021, before his departure at the end of 2023. Rangel moved to Barcelona SC in January 2024 as a free agent, but Técnico Universitario insisted his contract ran until 2025 and took him to court over breach of contract and alleged document falsification. The Ecuadorian Football Federation sided against him, ruling that he had unilaterally terminated his contract and ordering him to pay compensation of $37,800 to his former club.

Rangel established himself as a regular starter for the club in the Ecuadorian Serie A and in the Copa Libertadores. He scored the winning goal against Emelec in the Clásico del Astillero in Round 10 of the 2024 LigaPro season, a result that earned him the round's Player of the Round award.

Internationally, Rangel has represented Ecuador at Under-23 level, earning a call-up to the 2024 Pre-Olympic Tournament in Venezuela, where he made one appearance. He was later mentioned as a possible sparring option for the senior side's Copa América preparations, though a call-up to the full national team never followed.

Rangel has yet to add a major trophy to his career, with Barcelona SC missing out on both the LigaPro title and the Copa Ecuador in the seasons since his arrival.
