About the player
Cecilio Domínguez made his professional debut at Sol de América in November 2011, though it was at Cerro Porteño, the club whose number 10 shirt he now wears, that he had his breakthrough season. In 2016 he finished joint top scorer of the Paraguayan Clausura with 14 goals and joint top scorer of the Copa Sudamericana with six, form that took him to Club América in Mexico the following January for a fee reported at $6 million.
He rebuilt his career in Major League Soccer, where Austin FC signed him in August 2020 as the club's first-ever Designated Player, having first sent him on loan to Guaraní to finish out that season. His contract with Austin FC was terminated in July 2022, and he moved on to Santos Laguna in Mexico before returning to Cerro Porteño in 2023.
He was top scorer of the 2024 Apertura tournament with 11 goals, and in July 2024 he renewed his contract with Cerro Porteño for three further years. At international level, he came through Paraguay's youth setup at U-17 and U-20 before making his senior debut in 2014, going on to earn 17 caps.
