About the player
Fernando Elizari made his professional debut for Quilmes in the Argentine Primera División in October 2012, against San Lorenzo — the club he would join the following year and stay with until 2017. It was at San Lorenzo that he won the Torneo Inicial in 2013–14 and, in 2014, the Copa Libertadores. That period also took him on loan to O'Higgins in Chile and twice back to Quilmes before a spell at Defensa y Justicia, which he made permanent in 2017.
A loan to Johor Darul Ta'zim in Malaysia in 2018 brought a league title after just eight appearances and two goals. From there he went to Dorados de Sinaloa in Mexico, then back to Argentina with Unión de Santa Fe, before crossing into Uruguayan football with Cerro in 2021. His longest stop in that stretch came at Defensor Sporting, where he made 87 league appearances and scored eight goals across two seasons, winning the Copa Uruguay in both 2022 and 2023.
In July 2024, Elizari moved to América Mineiro in Brazil, arriving as a replacement for the injured Benítez. He has since made 60 appearances and scored five goals for the club. Across Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Malaysia, Uruguay and Brazil, he has now made more than 500 appearances at club level. His only representative football for Argentina came at under-20 level, in 2011.
