About the player
Everyone knows a Willian in Brazilian football. This one carries the nickname Bigode to keep him apart from his more famous namesake, and the mix-up runs deeper than the moustache: he has never played for Brazil's senior national team, despite a career that has taken in almost every honour the domestic game offers.
He started out at Guarani before a long spell at Atlético Paranaense, interrupted by loans to Vila Nova and Figueirense. It was at Corinthians, though, that the trophies began: the Campeonato Brasileiro in 2011 and the Copa Libertadores in 2012. Palmeiras brought the richest years of his career — the Brasileirão in 2018 and the Copa do Brasil in 2020, then back-to-back Copa Libertadores titles in 2020 and 2021.
At Fluminense he won the Campeonato Carioca in both 2022 and 2023, the second of those while out on loan at Athletico Paranaense. A brief stop at Santos in 2025 added a Série B winner's medal before he moved on a free transfer to América Mineiro that same year, where he now wears the number 9 shirt.
Individually, his standout moment came earlier, in 2010, when he was named Best Player and included in the Team of the Year for the Campeonato Catarinense.
