Jonathan de Irazusta

Jonathan de Irastorza came up through youth football in his native Bahía Blanca, at Libertad, Olimpo and Tiro Federal, playing as an attacking midfielder rather than the position that would eventually make his name. After a trial in Tornquist, he joined Independiente's academy in 2018, and it was there, facing a lack of openings in the enganche role, that he was moved back to left-back. He was part of the Independiente side that won the Copa Proyección, the club's reserve league title, in 2023.

He signed his first professional contract in April 2024, a deal running to December 2026 that carried a release clause of around €20 million net. His first-team debut came that November, away to Newell's Old Boys in the Liga Profesional, when he was sent on as a second-half substitute for Damián Pérez in a match Independiente lost 2–1.

Through the 2025 season he has pushed his way into the regular XI at left-back. He has also drawn interest from the Argentine youth setup, training with the under-17 group under Diego Placente and the under-20s under Javier Mascherano, though he is yet to add senior or competitive youth caps to that involvement.
