About the player
Kate Wiesner's route into professional football ran through Slammers FC, where she won three ECNL national championships before her career was interrupted by an ACL injury in 2018. A second ACL tear followed in her freshman year at Penn State in 2019, forcing a two-year recovery. She still went on to help Penn State win the Big Ten Women's Soccer Tournament in 2019 and 2022, was named Third-Team All-Big Ten and to the Big Ten Tournament All-Tournament Team in 2023, and had entered college as TopDrawerSoccer's No. 1 prospect in the 2019 recruiting class after being named its Player of the Year in 2018.
Washington Spirit took Wiesner 7th overall in the first round of the 2024 NWSL Draft, and she made her professional debut on 17 March 2024, starting against Seattle Reign. She was part of the Spirit squad that won the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup, beating Orlando Pride on penalties on 7 March 2025, though a hip injury kept her out of the final itself, and the same problem cost her several months of that NWSL season.
She made her debut for the United States on 28 November 2025, coming on as a substitute in a 3-0 friendly win over Italy. In April 2026, Washington Spirit rewarded her with a contract extension through the 2028 season, with a club option for 2029.
