About the player
Marcelo Alixandre Ajul came up through Sport Recife's academy after starting out in the youth ranks at Red Bull Brasil and Red Bull Bragantino, and he captained Sport's under-20 side at the 2023 Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. He made his first-team debut for Sport in 2021 and has since signed a contract renewal running to 2027, tying his long-term future to the Recife club even as loan spells have taken him elsewhere to gather minutes.
Those loans have been frequent. He spent 2023/24 in Croatia with NK Dubrava in the 2. HNL, a move that carried no option to buy, before returning to Brazil for a run through the Campeonato Pernambucano circuit in 2024 with Maguary, AD Jaguar and Vitória das Tabocas. The spell at AD Jaguar produced a Série A2 title. In March 2025 he moved to Athletic Club in Minas Gerais on loan for the Série B season, a deal that included an option for the parent club to buy 80% of his rights for R$ 3 million; that option was not taken up, and he returned to Sport at the end of the loan.
At club level with Sport, defender Marcelo Ajul has collected honours at multiple age groups: the Campeonato Pernambucano Sub-20 in 2022, and the senior Campeonato Pernambucano in 2026.
