Sandy McIver

Alexandra MacIver, known as Sandy, was born in Winsford, Cheshire, and came through Everton's academy before a spell in Manchester City's youth setup and a college career at Clemson University. She returned to Everton in January 2020 and made 39 league appearances, reaching the 2020 Women's FA Cup Final, where she was named Player of the Match despite a 3–1 defeat.

MacIver represented England at U17, U19, U20 and U21 level, winning the Golden Glove and a bronze medal at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, and won one senior England cap in a friendly against Northern Ireland in February 2021. In October 2023 she switched allegiance to Scotland and has since earned more than ten caps.

She joined Manchester City in July 2022 for an undisclosed fee. Her time there was disrupted by an ACL injury suffered on 5 April 2024 while on international duty for Scotland in a UEFA Euro 2025 qualifier. The injury kept her out for the rest of the 2023–24 season and the whole of 2024–25.

MacIver signed for Washington Spirit on 20 January 2025 on a three-year contract with a mutual option for 2028. She was part of the Spirit squad that won the 2025 NWSL Challenge Cup, though she did not feature in the final. Her chance to establish herself as first-choice goalkeeper came in the 2026 season, when Aubrey Kingsbury went on maternity leave and MacIver took over between the posts. She kept four consecutive clean sheets during the group stage of the 2025–26 Concacaf W Champions Cup.
