About the player
Rudd came into the professional game as an eighth overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft, taken by Washington Spirit out of USC. At USC she played forward and was named Pac-12 Forward of the Year in her junior season; in the NWSL she has lined up as a defender for the entire span of her career with the Spirit.
She grew up in Newbury Park, California, and was named Daily News Soccer Player of the Year at Newbury Park High School, having come through the youth ranks at Eagles SC and SoCal FC before four seasons at USC between 2018 and 2021.
Her rookie year at Washington Spirit ended with the NWSL Championship in 2021, and she has stayed with the club ever since. In 2025 she was named NWSL Defender of the Year and made her senior debut for the United States, having already represented the country at under-20 level in 2018 and under-23 level in 2019.
She married in December 2025 and began playing under the name Tara Rudd, having previously appeared as Tara McKeown. Around the same time she signed a contract extension with Washington Spirit through 2028.
