AEL

Giorgos Thyrotos ran the bench as player-coach through the 1980s. Twelve trophies came out of that decade alone. A second such run followed between 2002 and 2010, and this one reached beyond Cyprus — the club went 10–0 to win the FIBA Europe Regional Challenge Cup in the 2002–03 season.

Founded in 1966 by Michalis Nikolaidis, who took the first coaching job himself, the basketball section belongs to a club whose name — Athlitiki Enosi Lemesou — long precedes it; AEL was among the founding members of the Cyprus Basketball Federation and began Division A competition the following year.

The Limassol derby against Apollon is the fixture that empties the calendar locally, with Keravnos and APOEL supplying the rest of the rivalry list. Behind the team stand SY.F.AEL, known simply as Gate 3. Games are played at the Nicos Solomonides Arena, built in 2005 and holding 2,500.
