The European North Basketball League operates as a professional club basketball competition. It was established in 2021 by Latvian organizers Edgars Zanders and Igo Zanders. The tournament functions independently of the official FIBA European club pyramid. It serves as a Tier 3 or 4 alternative for mid-market clubs situated below the EuroLeague, EuroCup, FIBA Champions League, and FIBA Europe Cup. The league does not hold official FIBA sanctioning but operates under FIBA Europe's patronage.
The structure differs significantly from traditional domestic competitions. It is a pan-European, independent commercial league. The 2025–26 season includes 26 to 27 teams representing 17 countries. Participants are divided into three pools. The top four clubs from each pool advance to two-legged quarter-finals. These matches lead to a Final Four tournament held in April. The format excludes promotion or relegation to domestic leagues. Entry into the competition is secured by invitation or through qualifying tournaments such as Croatia's Liburnia Cup.
The league maintains a closed structure distinct from FIBA competitions. It lacks domestic qualification requirements and presents lower financial barriers. This approach targets clubs that are excluded from top-tier European competitions. Previous winners include Anwil Włocławek, Stal Ostrów Wielkopolski, Bakken Bears, and Newcastle Eagles. The official website for the competition is https://www.enbleague.eu/.
