Mill Farm sits on Coronation Way in Wesham, a purpose-built ground AFC Fylde only moved into on 13 August 2016, replacing the more cramped Kellamergh Park across the way in Warton, where the club had played since 2006. The pitch now holds 6,000, 2,000 of them seated, small enough that a promotion push and a relegation battle can feel equally close to the touchline.
The club itself came out of a 1988 merger of two Wesham sides, Kirkham Town and Wesham, first playing as Kirkham & Wesham in the West Lancashire League before taking the AFC Fylde name in 2008, the same year it beat Lowestoft Town 2-1 at Wembley to win the FA Vase. Eleven years later, in 2019, it beat Leyton Orient 1-0 to take the FA Trophy as well, a double no other English club has managed across the two non-league cup competitions.
Between those two Wembley wins came the rise through the pyramid: a run of seven West Lancashire League titles out of eight seasons up to 2007, then the climb via the Northern Premier League into what is now National League North, and up again to the National League in 2016/17. That promotion owed a lot to Dave Challinor, who managed the club for eight years from 2011 and took it from regional football to the fifth tier, and to Danny Rowe, who scored 50 goals in that title-winning 2016/17 season. The club has since bounced between National League and National League North more than once, dropping down after the curtailed 2019/20 season and again after 2024/25, before winning National League North once more in 2025/26 to go back up.
Chorley are the derby fixture that matters most. The Coasters, a nickname drawn from the Fylde coast itself, still play their football a short drive from that stretch of Lancashire shoreline, at the ground built for them a decade ago.
