Harry Kane scores as Bayern beat Elversberg 2-1

The champions needed it. SV Elversberg, playing Bundesliga football for the first time in their history, had arrived at the Ursapharm-Arena an der Kaiserlinde with two wins from two and a perfect record to defend. For the first 25 minutes they matched Bayern stride for stride, Kim Min-Jae going close at the wrong end and Noah Darvich missing a cutback chance.

Bayern broke through in the 26th minute. Ismael Saibari's cross ran across the face of goal, missing everyone, until Lennart Karl arrived at the back post to make it 1-0. SV Elversberg thought they had an equaliser before the break when Darvich played in Cole Campbell, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Vincent Wagner's side did not sit back after the interval. Just past the hour mark, Maurice Krattenmacher, a former Bayern player himself, curled in a long-range effort to make it 1-1 and lift the home crowd.

Vincent Kompany turned to his bench, bringing on Jamal Musiala, Luis Diaz and Joshua Kimmich, and the momentum swung. Diaz tried an audacious backheel that did not come off.

The result leaves Bayern fourth on seven points, two behind leaders Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund, having drawn with Schalke last time out before beating Bodo/Glimt 5-0 in the Champions League midweek. The match ended 1-1.
